In August 2025, I was deeply honored to receive the Beacon of Humanity Award from the Global Society for Female Entrepreneurs. The award recognizes leaders who embody compassion, generosity, and service in their work.
For me, however, it was much more than recognition, it was a validation of a principle I’ve taught and lived for decades with kindness in business.
Kindness is not just a virtue, it is a viable and now award-winning business strategy.
Kindness in a Dark Time
After suffering a serious accident that left me immobilized, my life and business came to a sudden halt.
Not the kind of thing that screams “kindness” on the surface, right?
But during that time, the kindness of colleagues, friends, and mentors became my lifeline.
Their generosity showed me that kindness was not just comforting, it was transformational.
With a lot of time to think and reflect, it became almost obvious that kindness was one of my personal principles for growth and it showed up over and over again in every area of my life.
The more I looked, the more I saw the impact kindness was having on everyone around me.
Even during dark or challenging times, kindness became the beacon of light that led the way forward.
That seed then became The Profit of Kindness.
The Case for Kindness in Business
In my book The Profit of Kindness, I repeatedly demonstrate why kindness is far more than a feel-good concept.
It is a practical, measurable approach that drives results.
When you lead with kindness in business (and everywhere else), you build trust, attract referrals, and create lasting relationships. These are the building blocks of visibility and credibility, two essentials for every entrepreneur and leader.
Going back to the time of my accident, I had no idea how I would keep my business afloat.
A dear colleague and coach stepped in with great kindness, offering time, encouragement, and expertise, without asking for anything in return.
The kindness didn’t just lift my spirits, it gave me the tools to rebuild.
Kindness is a form of currency: the more you spend it, the richer you become.
Years later, I’ve seen hundreds of clients and readers transform their businesses by applying this same principle.
How Kindness Creates Results
Kindness is your most important investment. Kindness in business:
- Strengthens client and colleague relationships
- Attracts referrals naturally
- Enhances your reputation and credibility
- Builds loyalty that advertising dollars can’t buy
It’s not a soft skill. It is a competitive advantage.
Practice Makes Perfect
The goal of the book and my mission for years has been to help people like you put kindness into action.
To create a kinder world for us all.
If you’re not sure where to start, here’s a few specific ways you can put kindness into action right now:
- Send a note of appreciation to a client or colleague
- Make an introduction between two people who could benefit from knowing each other
- Offer encouragement or a compliment without expecting anything in return
- Share a helpful resource with someone in your network
- Reconnect with a contact you haven’t spoken to in a while, just to check in
Each of these small acts will open doors, strengthen your reputation, and create opportunities you never expected.
When kindness is at the core of your business strategy, the impact reaches far beyond profit.
A simple thank you leads to your next referral.
A generous introduction sparks a partnership that changes your career.
An encouraging word could be the reason someone else keeps going.
These ripple effects strengthen not only your business but your community. The return on kindness is always bigger than the act itself.
Final Thought
The Beacon of Humanity Award isn’t just about me.
It’s the representation of my life’s work.
I want to use this opportunity to remind you to serve, connect, and uplift others as I strive to do every day.
It starts with only one simple act of kindness and can become the spark for transformation in your business and your life.
To a kinder world!
